Khao Lak is located just to the north of Phuket Island and is considered by many experts to be the next up and coming Thailand travel destination. It was well on its way before the Tsunami hit the region and the Tsunami washed away many Khao Lak hotels and infrastructure. What did remain however was the spectacular beach of Khao Lak which is one of the most beautiful beaches of Thailand.

Khao Lak is especially very popular with divers and with European travelers. Many tourists that would like to enjoy a relaxing beach holiday in the region without all the nightlife options for example often prefer Khao Lak over Phuket. Another great benefit of staying in Khao Lak is that prices are generally less expensive then what you would pay in Phuket. Famous Thai dive destinations such as the Surin Islands and the Similan Islands are only a relatively short boat ride away.

Khao Lak Beaches

There are actually several Khao Lak beaches and not a single Khao Lak beach which is what many people seem to think. The Phuket guide has listed in this section of our Phuket guide some of the finest Khao Lak beaches.

Nang Thong Beach

The most popular Khao Lak beach is the Nang Thong Beach. Even though this beach is the most popular Khao Lak beach does not mean that it ever gets crowded. You can enjoy your time on Nang Thong beach in a peaceful way and it certainly never gets crowded. There are a few water sport options at this beautiful Khao Lak beach. If you would like to find a hotel which is located at this beach in Khao Lak then you should consider reserving a room at one of the following Khao Lak beach resorts and hotels: Andaburi Resort, Khao Lak Seaview Resort and the Baan Khao Lak Hotel.

Pakweeb Beach

The most tropical and under developed beach at Khao Lak is most likely the Pakweeb Beach. You can enjoy kilometers of this white sandy beach without the annoying sounds of jet skis and speed boats. The reason for this is that the Pakweeb beach is part of a Thai national park which prohibits this type of activities. You will not find many restaurants or shops at Pakweeb beach and there are only very limited options when it comes to staying at a Khao Lak hotel or resort at Pakweeb Beach. The two main hotels at this Khao Lak beach are as follows: The Khao Lak Sarojin Resort and Le Meridian Khao Lak Beach Resort and Spa.

Bang Niang Beach

Another very popular Khao Lak beach is the Bang Niang Beach. There are not too activities which you will find at this Khao Lak beach however you can do some excellent swimming and snorkeling. There are limited dining options other than the restaurants at the local Khao Lak resorts and hotels. You will be able to find several good Thai restaurants and seafood restaurants along the beach of Bang Niang. If you would like to spend your holiday at this Khao Lak beach then you should book a room at one of the following Khao Lak beach resorts or hotels: Khao Lak Palm Hill Resort, Khao Lak Orchid Beach Resort, La Flora Khao Lak Resort and the Khao Lak Palm Beach Resort.

Khuk Khak Beach

One of our favorite Khao Lak beaches is most definitely Khuk Khak Beach. This beautiful beach is lined with tall palm trees and it is also not very developed which makes it a great place to spend the day or even the week. There are tropical palm groves at Khuk Khak beach which tourists can explore and you can rent a long tail boat to explore the surrounding areas. There are only a few Khao Lak resorts and hotels along this beautiful Khao Lak beach and they include the following great resorts: Khao Lak Bhandari Resort and the Khao Lak Bay Front Resort.

Khao Lak Nightlife

The Khao Lak Nightlife can in no way be compared to the nightlife of Phuket. If you would like to party hard every night then you are probably better off staying in Phuket during your holiday. If however you are more than happy with some bars and other Khao Lak nightlife venues then perhaps Khao Lak is the right choice for you. One of our favorite Khao Lak nightlife venues is the Happy Snapper as they have some great live bands that perform there. If you would like to meet some other people on holiday in Khao Lak then the Happy Snapper is the ideal Khao Lak nightlife venue for you. There are some other interesting Khao Lak bars and beer bars in the area as well where you can find some lovely Khao Lak girl if you are seeking such a thing. There are also a number of Irish bars in the Khao Lak area including Farrell’s Irish pub and O’Conner’s Irish pub.

Khao Lak Location

Khao Lak is located north of Phuket in the province of Phang-Nga. Most travelers that would like to spend a part of their vacation in Khao Lak will fly into Phuket International Airport and then drive up to Khao Lak. The drive from Phuket to Khao Lak will take about one and a half hour. If you would like to travel the inexpensive way then you can take a public bus from Phuket Town to Phang-Nga town and from there a local bus down to Khao Lak.

Khao Lak Shopping

There are no major Khao Lak shopping venues however there are plenty of smaller shops and boutiques in the Khao Lak area. Shoppers can find a number of good tailor shops as well as plenty of shops that sell fake designer items as well as products such as the latest DVD movies or software programs. If you would like to do some shopping in Khao Lak then you should head over to La on Village which is where you can find the largest variety of stores and shops in Khao Lak..
